ASHLEY CAME OUT OF HIDING!

CH's Persian cat, Ashley managed to slip out of the house one evening and no one could find her anywhere. Both CH and her husband, MH, were beside themselves with worry for Ashley's safety, as she had never been outside before.

When I contacted Ashley, she let me know that a black Labrador dog that lived at the right end of the block had chased her. She told me that she was hiding near a short wooden footbridge over a culvert at the left end of the block and was too afraid to come out for fear of the black Labrador dog.

CH knew the dog I mentioned and the short wooden footbridge at the end of the block but was not able to find Ashley anywhere.

Unable to sleep, MH got up to take another look outside for Ashley. He saw her sitting two doors to the left, scooped her up and brought her back inside. It was 1:30 AM, but MH woke CH up and asked her to "come take a look" at something out in their living room. CH almost fainted with relief. There was Ashley safe and sound.

Cats can be particularly hard to find if they don't want to be seen. I receive many calls from clients whose cats turn out to be almost "right under their noses."

HB of Rosedale, Maryland contacted me when her cat, Lily, jumped out of her carrier as HB loaded her into her cat on a trip to the veterinary office. Four days had gone by and despite a frantic search, Lily was nowhere in sight.

When I contacted Lily she let me know that she was in the bushes at the far end of HB's apartment building toward the next building over. Lily had seen HB many times but, as this was the first time she had been allowed outside, she wanted to sit and watch all of the new sights and sounds around her. Lily felt like a kid in Disneyland for the first time. She let me know that she was reluctant to go home, as she had seen other cats, birds and many fascinating jumping bugs.

Upon careful inspection, HB found Lily in the bushes at the end of her apartment building, but Lily darted off. She was seen that night with another cat far off in the woods by HB's building.

I asked HB if she would be willing to make a compromise. If Lily would come home, HB would find was to let her out for supervised visits. HB agreed. Lily showed up at HB's door the next morning!

JAKEY MAKES SOME NEW FRIENDS

JAKEY MAKES SOME NEW FRIENDS

TM took Jakey, a feral cat, into her home and bottle-fed him back to health. Unfortunately, he just disappeared one day.

When I communicated with Jakey he let me know that he had gone wild again and was eating out of a neighbor's cat dish that was very dirty and crusted with food. He told me he was about one block away, living in a taupe-gray home where a woman with shoulder length brown hair lived. He told me the woman had children and their home had a "country" look. Jakey told me he was living underneath the neighbor's deck and that there were several cats in the area eating out of the same dish as well. Jakey let me know that he had befriended a black, orange and white cat who lived in the neighbor's house.

TM alerted all of her neighbors and within 15 minutes of each other two ladies called and said they had seen Jakey on their deck.

TM of Fresno, CA writes:

"I received two calls yesterday. The callers lived two doors apart and both had sightings of him. What was really amazing was you described both homes to a tee. They are both taupe gray and have a "country" look. I went to the first home and saw the black, orange and white cat that you had described. The woman who lived there had seen him eating out of her cat's bowl. At the second home, a woman with shoulder length brown hair had seen Jakey. You mentioned how they were washing the cat's bowl, as it was messy.

Thank you so much! We are so happy to have little Jakey home with us again. We call the last two weeks "Jakey's Big Adventure. Thank you."
